History of Efinger:

In 1909, George A. Efinger opened a combination newsstand, billiard parlor and bowling alley on Main Street in Bound Brook. Located across the street from the train station, this location provided travelers a gathering place while they waited for their departures. As time progressed, George found that many of his patrons would forsake the parlor games for outdoor activities, when hunting and fishing season came about.

In 1927, George's son, young George, became head of the organization. Young George's love of team sports developed into Efinger's becoming all types of sports equipments and uniforms to schools, organizations and colleges. Efinger became the leading team outfitter in New Jersey. Top

George's younger brother Frank joined the business and was a great motivator in their wholesale division. During the late 1930's and 40's Efinger became the distribution point for most of the top selling sporting goods brands throughout the major tri-state, Pennsylvania-New York-New Jersey market.

In 1974, Efinger's moved into its current 54,000 square foot facility on Union Avenue in Bound Brook. By that time Frank's sister Marie Efinger Hoey was already deeply involved in the family business. Her son Jim was corporate president and her other son Tom was corporate CEO and headed the team, school and college supply business.

In 1999, Jim Hoey sold his half of Efinger to a long time friend and business associate Murray Greenberg. Murray's expert knowledge in manufacturing and distribution of sporting goods, and Tom Hoey's unsurpassed expertise in the team and institutional business gives, Efinger a stronghold on service and satisfaction that is second to none.

We will strive to continue to be New Jersey's Oldest and Largest Sporting Goods Store for at least another century. We will dedicate ourselves to the principles upon which this business was founded. Service: Competitive Pricing and Personal Contact.
